Area 1 (‘Economy’): Improve the productivity, resilience and competitiveness of European Animal Production
We are looking for partners (preferably from the region of the Carpathian) to co-operate in the project on developing cost-effective cattle and sheep production systems, based on grazing in mountainous areas. Such systems should facilitate the production of high quality, regional milk and meat products, including those manufactured based on the designed new recipes. The aim is to formulate innovative models and computer based decision support systems for integrated activity in a sustainable cattle and sheep management, animal product processing and marketing. The models will be used to analyse the production, socio-economic and environmental impacts of various strategies in animal management, product processing and marketing and to improve the economic efficiency of farmers' activity in the mountain regions.

The scientific activity of the University of Agriculture in Kraków is currently conducted in 8 faculties and 51 departments, and includes research in 13 scientific disciplines of agricultural sciences, forestry and veterinary. The important goal is a cooperation with agricultural enterprises and local authorities, which was approved by 50 agreements with various partners. The University realizes numerous research projects (financed by national research grants) and implements joint scientific programs on the basis of bilateral cooperation agreements with higher education and research institutions in: Germany, Belgium, France, United Kingdom, USA, Italy, Israel, Denmark, Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia and Czech Republic.
Scientific staff is well experienced in the organization and economics of animal breeding and production, designing the decision support systems and optimization of animal management and production, sustainable development of animal production, computer analyzes, technology of animal product processing, animal welfare and environment preservation.
This was confirmed by the participation in numerous research and application projects on sustainable agriculture, carried out with national and foreign partners.
