Area 2 (‘Environment’): Improve and manage resource use to reduce waste and enhance the environmental sustainability of European animal production
We have experience developing energy systems to improve energy resources used in dairy cattle farms, in particular with regards to cooling and heating processes. We got excellent results, reducing operation costs and contributing to sustainability of dairy farms production.
We are a non-profit association that consists of several technical teachers, engineers, technicians and companies involved in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy issues (more than 150 members).
Besides energy efficiency, the areas of work of our association are biomass, solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, wind energy and geothermal energy.
Within the association there are working groups on specific topics of renewable energies in which a large number of partners are involved. These working groups disseminate knowledge through the publication of documents or project implementation.
We believe in energy efficiency as a work option, but also as a real option to favour the competitiveness of the businesses and their profitability.
We are aware of the importance of primary sector in our region and much of our work is focused in agriculture, raising livestock and forestry. In particular:
- Designing, developing and installing energy systems on dairy cattle farms to improve energy resources use and reduce operation costs.
- Providing solutions for the enhancement of forest residues exploitation (biomass) as an energy source, adding value to the management of our natural resources and favouring the control of forest fires.
- Designing 100% renewable energy supply systems for small rural isolated villages, based on biomass and solar energy sources.
Also, we provide solutions to businesses and households to improve the energy efficiency of new buildings and the renovation of the old ones without losing comfort or quality of life.
As for the skills of the staff involved we have teachers who have prepared teaching materials related to renewable energy sources (books and technical manuals), have participated in technical conferences and have won national and regional awards for educational innovation in the field of renewable energies and professionals who have worked in biomass and photovoltaic solar installations. Also, some of them have participated in European projects.
