milk quality - residue analysis in milk - veterinary diagnostics on milk samples - udder health - bacteriological culture/real-time PCR on milk - susceptibility testing - antimicrobial usage - antimicrobial resistance
Area 3 (‘Society’): Improve on-farm practices to enhance consumer acceptability and address societal challenges associated with animal welfare, product quality and safety, biodiversity and provision of ecosystem services
MCC is interested to cooperate on milk quality/composition, udder health, prudent use of antimicrobials, etc. in dairy cows (or minor species). We can offer a range of laboratory analyses on milk as a matrix (bulk milk as well as cow/quarter milk samples). E.g. milk quality, milk composition, detection of intramammary infections by standard culture or real-time PCR, susceptibility testing on mastitis pathogens by disk diffusion, veterinary diagnostics (Johne’s, IBR, BVD, Neosporosis, etc.) on milk samples, etc. Evaluation of milk quality related to different farm management systems is one practical example of the possibilities.
Next to a laboratory component, MCC can offer herd guidance or follow-up on dairy farms regarding udder health, technical aspects of milking, milk quality, etc. Logistics over the whole Flemish region is a supplementary advantage of our organization.
A special interest goes out to the (prudent) use of antimicrobials and selective dry cow therapy.
MCC is an interprofessional, non-profit organization. The key tasks are the determination of raw milk quality of milk produced in Flanders (Northern part of Belgium), the Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI)-analyses, mastitis research (diagnostics and susceptibility testing), veterinary diagnostic testing on milk, and guidance/advice on dairy farms.
